We went for second opinion at Ampang Puteri and he ordered Haikal to undergo a hearing test. We did and the nurse in fact did several tests to confirm her findings. She even did the test on my hubby just to test that the machine is working. The nurse said, usually the graph will have at least some peak but Haikal’s tests were all flat. She dare not say anything and told us to hear what the doctor had to day bout the tests.
Not to our surprise, the doctor confirmed it and said, his actual words were “kalau nak kata teruk, ni antara yang paling teruk yang saya pernah jumpa”.
So we had no choice but to go for surgery to remove his adenoid and tonsils. On top of that, the doctor will placed 2 tubes in each ear to drain the phlegm that has thickened at the back of his ears. Apparently the phlegm has affected his hearing hence no peak. The doctor further said 90% of parents won’t realize that their kids have hearing problems since it’s actually undetectable. Luckily we realize it because if not it will affect his hearing permanently.
So after long discussion and explanation on the surgery and what not we agreed to go for the surgery on 17 March 2009. The doctor said if there’s any complication, it will be because of the tube. The tube will come out on its own usually between 3-6 months. Since the tube is a foreign substance, it MAY (1) affect his balance; and (2) his body may reject it since it’s foreign substance in his organs.
And that’s what I’m afraid of. The worse is yet to come. The doctor said I may have to accompany him into the operation theatre until he goes to sleep. OMG how am I supposed to see him in that condition…. I don’t know how I can stand looking at him so small on the operating table… HUHUHUHUHUHUHU!!!!
We had to prep him for his surgery. But I never told him about the surgery. I asked whether his ear ache or is he always in pain. Haikal said, never in pain but he felt that there’s a lot of water in his ears. Thank god, at least he’s not in pain. So I told him, doctor will need to cure him. We need to go to hospital cause doctor need to put medicine in his ears so that water can come out. Every time I mentioned hospital, he’ll start crying.
After some time (or after much bribery) he accepted the fact that he had to go to hospital. We had to shop for toys, bought new pencil colours and coloring books. See to what extent we had to go to prep him.
Finally, it’s the day that we had to admit him. Hubby went with Haikal for admission process. Tried to get a single room but it was full and we got a twin bed instead. We were no. 4 on the waiting list for single room.
What to do… Alaani had to stay home with bibi. Wouldn’t want her to be there and see her brother in pain. His operation is scheduled at 830am the next day. No. 1 on the doctor’s list. After subuh prayer, I couldn’t sleep. I prayed so hard that all will be OK and Haikal will recover fast. i kept looking at him in his sleep and pray for him.
830am past. No one came to bring Haikal to OT. Asked the nurse. She said they will call once the OT informed that they are ready. About 920am, the nurse came and brought Haikal’s change of clothe. He started crying and we tried to console him. We carried him to the OT (not really OT, outside OT thay call it Recovery Room). We were about there for almost an hour and yet they are still not ready.
Once inside, my eyes became watery. I couldn’t stand it, the most dreaded episode is about to happened. Hubby told me not to cry in front of Haikal. He said I will scare him more. But what can I do? I am a mother and my son is about to be operated on.
We were about there for almost an hour and yet they are still not ready. We used the time to prep him and console him. Then the nurse came and told me to change my clothes. Soon, the anesthetist came and informed us the procedure. It’s time and I had to carry Haikal into the OT. OMG it was such a scary place even for me. Haikal cried and I had to be strong for him. I felt like crying too… but I managed not to cry, Haikal was holding me for his dear life… They waited for few minutes and still he cried, then the anesthetist told me that they couldn’t wait, so 4 nurses had to hold him down while the anesthetist gassed him… I couldn’t stop my tears, slowly it was running down my cheek. In less than 10 seconds, Haikal was asleep and the nurse told me and had to drag me out. Haikal looked so small and helpless….
Waiting sucks… We waited for about an hour. I kept seeing patient being wheeled out from OT. Suddenly I saw the anesthetist carrying a boy. Called my hubby and told him is that Haikal. Hubby looked and said probably because the patient looked so small. Then the nurse came to get me. Once she opened the door, I can hear him crying and screaming for me. OMG he’s already awake.
The sight of him right after the surgery really broke my heart. With traces of blood in his nose and mouth still full of blood. And I cant stand the screaming… “Mama… Sakit!!!” and he’s almost clotheless. He cant sleep because he’s really in pain and he’s shivering from the pain and the coldness. Seriously, when he cried, I cried too. They dint allow my hubby to come in. but after sometime, I told the nurse to get my husband cos I couldn’t stand being there alone. I am helpless and I couldn’t help ease his pain.
Haikal was in pain the whole day. He woke up from the pain. He would grab my hand and told me to stay cos it’s too painful. And I think his mouth hurts from the clam that they use to keep his mouth open. He dint drink or eat a single thing that day. He vomited blood. I had to wipe his mouth and face with ice to reduce the swollen. And every time I stopped, he started to cry.
MIL, FIL and SIL were all there. Hubby brought Alaani and bibik in the afternoon and I never left his side. By evening, his pain lessened. I really thank god for that. He started talking or at least listened to us talking and not crying of his pain. At night, he forces hubby to ‘pasang’ B-Daman for him and he wanted to colour but his so tired I told him not to colour yet. Then Uncle Azrul, Bidin & GF, Jay and Che We n Alia came to visit. He’s a bit better but not in the mood to talk. But he vomited blood again. Then when hubby sent Alaani and bibik home, he kept on asking for ayah. Ayah bought him lollipop and viatgen. He took a sip then that’s it.
The next day he woke up early and said to me “Mama Haikal dah baik dah… Haikal nak balik….”
Again I almost cried. I told him OK but we have to wait for the doctor to discharge us first. And he’s back to his normal self except that he cant eat cos it still hurts.
I asked him what he wants to eat and he said tomyam… How la….
Anyhow, I thank god that he’s OK now and I hope it will not come back and I don’t have to go through this again….

Enlarged Adenoids - To wait or not to wait...
Both Haikal's paed and ENT suggested surgery to remove his enlarged adenoids. Though he still snores during his sleeps but his fever alhamdulilah lessened and not as bad as before. Bad - as in every 2 weeks and very high fever. The next check up will be on 28 Jan 09, and we have to decide by then whether we want to proceed with the surgery or not... Arrgghhh... I feel that he is still so small and being a drama king himself, I have doubts... I read this article about adenoids and it freaks me out... Hmm not really.... I am just in doubt....
Enlarged Adenoids
Often, tonsils and adenoids are surgically removed at the same time. Although you can see the tonsils by looking in your child's throat, adenoids aren't directly visible. Your child's doctor has to use a small mirror or a special scope to get a peek at your child's adenoids.
So, what are adenoids anyway? They're a mass of tissue, located in the passage that connects the back of the nasal cavity to the throat. Adenoids — which are also called nasopharyngeal tonsils but are separate from the tonsils in the throat — filter out bacteria and viruses entering through the nose and produce antibodies to help the body fight infections.
Some doctors believe that adenoids may not be important at all after kids reach their third birthday. In fact, adenoids usually shrink after about 5 years of age, and they often practically disappear by the teenage years.
What Are the Symptoms of Enlarged Adenoids?
Because adenoids trap germs that enter a child's body, adenoid tissue sometimes temporarily swells as it tries to fight off an infection. There are several symptoms associated with enlarged adenoids. You may notice that your child:
1. complains of difficulty breathing through the nose (nope)
2. is breathing through the mouth -sometimes
3. talks as if his or her nostrils are pinched - yes
4. breathes noisily - yes
5. snores while sleeping - double yess
stops breathing for a few seconds while sleeping (called sleep apnea) - afraid if he does
If enlarged adenoids are suspected, your child's doctor may:
1. Ask about and then check your child's ears, nose, and throat. Done
2. Listen to your child's breathing through a stethoscope. Done
3. Feel your child's neck near the jaw. Done
4. To get a really close look, the doctor may even want to take one or more X-rays. For a suspected infection, the doctor may prescribe oral antibiotics or maybe an injection of penicillin. Nope but he has been taking antihistamined for the past one year
When Is Surgery Necessary?
If enlarged or infected adenoids keep bothering your child and medicine doesn't stop them from coming back, the doctor may recommend surgically removing them with a procedure called an adenoidectomy. This may be recommended if your child experiences one or more of the following:
1. difficulty breathing
2. sleep apnea
3. recurrent infections
Having your child's adenoids removed is especially important when repeated infections lead to sinus and ear infections. Badly swollen adenoids can interfere with ear pressure and fluid movement, which can sometimes lead to hearing loss. Therefore, kids whose infected adenoids cause frequent earaches and fluid buildup may need to get an adenoidectomy as well as ear tube surgery.
And although adenoids can be taken out without the tonsils, if your child is having tonsil problems, they may need to be removed at the same time. A tonsillectomy with an adenoidectomy is the most common operation for children.
What Happens During the Surgery? Am afraid of this part actually
Surgery, no matter how common or simple the procedure, is often frightening for both the child and parent. You can help prepare your child for surgery by talking about what to expect. During the adenoidectomy and/or tonsillectomy:
1. Your child will receive general anesthesia. This means the surgery will be performed in an operating room so that an anesthesiologist can monitor your child.
2. Your child will be asleep for about 20 minutes.
3. The surgeon can get to the tonsils and/or the adenoids through your child's open mouth — there's no need to cut through skin.
4. The surgeon removes the tonsils and/or the adenoids with a series of incisions and then cauterizes (or seals) the blood vessels.
5. Your child will wake up in the recovery area. In most cases, the total time in the hospital is 5 to 10 hours. 6. However, kids who have trouble breathing or show signs of bleeding will return immediately to the operating room. And kids under 3 years of age and those with chronic disease, such as seizure disorders or cerebral palsy, will usually stay overnight for observation.
The typical recuperation after a tonsillectomy and/or an adenoidectomy often involves a week or more of pain and discomfort due to the exposure of the throat muscles. Because of throat pain, your child will probably prefer eating a lot of soft foods, like ice cream, pudding, and soups.
About a week after surgery, everything should return to normal. The cut area will be left to heal naturally, which means there are no stitches to worry about. There's a small chance any tissue that's left behind can swell, but it rarely causes new problems.
After surgery, a child's symptoms typically disappear immediately, unless there's a lot of swelling that could lead to some temporary symptoms.
Understanding Enlarged Adenoids
Even though some kids may need surgery, it's important to remember that enlarged adenoids are normal in others. If your child's adenoids aren't infected, the doctor may choose to wait to operate because the adenoids may eventually shrink on their own as adolescence approaches.
Tonsils and Tonsillitis
Tonsils are clumps of tissue on both sides of the throat that trap bacteria and viruses entering through the throat and produce antibodies to help fight infections.
Tonsillitis occurs when tonsils become infected and swell. If you look down your child's throat with a flashlight, the tonsils may be red and swollen or have a white or yellow coating on them. Other symptoms of tonsillitis may include:
1. sore throat
2. pain or discomfort when swallowing
3. fever
4. swollen glands (lymph nodes) in the neck
But enlarged or swollen tonsils are a common finding for many kids. Left alone, your child's enlarged tonsils may eventually shrink on their own over the course of several years. Don't rely on your own guesses, though — you might not be able to judge whether your child's tonsils are infected. If you suspect tonsillitis, contact your doctor. Recurrent sore throats and infections should also be evaluated by the doctor, who may order a throat culture to check for strep throat.
About Tonsillectomies
The surgical procedure to remove tonsils is called a tonsillectomy. The doctor may suggest tonsillectomy if your child has one or more of the following:
1. persistent or recurrent tonsillitis or strep infections
2. swollen tonsils that make it hard to breathe
3. difficulty eating meat or chewy foods
4. snoring that might be affecting the child's daily activities
5. obstructive sleep apnea (a condition in which your child may stop breathing for a few seconds at a time during sleep because enlarged tonsils are partially blocking the airway)
Surgery, no matter how common or simple the procedure, is often frightening for both child and parent. You can help prepare your child for surgery by talking about what to expect.
During the tonsillectomy:
1. Your child will receive general anesthesia. This means the surgery will be performed in an operating room so that an anesthesiologist can monitor your child.

The typical recuperation after a tonsillectomy often involves a week or more of pain and discomfort due to the exposure of the throat muscles after the tonsils are removed. This can affect your child's ability to eat and drink and return to normal activities.
Intracapsular tonsillectomy, a variation on traditional tonsillectomy techniques, is surgery in which all involved tonsil tissue is removed; however, a small layer of tonsil tissue is left in place to protect the underlying throat muscles. As a result, the recovery is much faster because most kids experience less pain, don't need as much strong pain medication, and are more willing to eat and drink. Additionally, the risk of bleeding after surgery is significantly less than with a traditional tonsillectomy. Since residual tonsil tissue remains, there is a very slight chance that it can re-enlarge or become infected and require more tonsil surgery, but this occurs in less than 1% of children undergoing intracapsular tonsillectomy.
How? To do or not to so?

Shopaholic
I think I am a shopaholic or have become one (in denial stage shaking my head)…. This month alone I bought more than 10 shirts and blouses for myself and I have bought scarves for about the same numbers. OMG!!!! Bought MAC foundation powder, shirts for Haikal and Alaani. Thought of buying shirts for hubby but couldn’t find one that I like.
I still haven’t bought few items from my list:-
i. Coach handbag;
ii. DKNY Red Delicious perfume;
iii. more shoes;
iv. etc etc… (still not admitting there's a long list to this list)
We have also been eating out a lot this month:-
i. Paddington House of Pancake;
ii. Penang Little Café;
iii. Rawsha (Iranian food);
iv. Wong Solo;
v. I know there’s more that but can’t think of any now or simply don’t want to remember. Fast food, a must, I mean all type of fast food KFC, Pizza Hut, Mc Donald and more.
How? How?
Die!! Die!!!

My First Press Conference
I have been looking forward to go for my very first press conference when they launched Sehati Berdansa Season 2 sometime in October. But somehow the producer forgot to send the invites to me hhuhuhuhu….
So for the Raja Lawak Season 3, the producer knew that I wasn’t invited for Sehati Berdansa’s press conference and he kept on saying that I will not forget you Nomy…. Don’t worry…. True to his word, I did get the invites. It was yesterday at Saloma Bistro Jalan Ampang.
I arrived a bit late. Had Xmas makan-makan and exchanged gifts with my boss and colleagues. We had to do it yesterday as we had a big presentation before the big boss on Tuesday and 2 of my collegues are on leave today.
The press conference was interesting. Wanted to take pictures but I malu hehhehee…. A lot of people form the press... Sebenarnya tak tau and tak kenal pun. I sat with the producers and the team. Wanted to seat with Mr Heartthrob (I know you know Ms Dancing Queen hehehhehe) but cannot la , it was a high profile table.
I missed the opening speech and the speech given by our new channel manager. That's OK though... It was hosted by Johan and Azizan and they are in fact funny. A good combination I can say. The way the introduced the finalists was also funny. Finalists were placed in a box that looked like mobile toilets and they can only come out of the box once the hosts announced their name. My personal view (but I dint really follow last season) they have better finalists this time compared to last season. We have 2 girls this time.
The best part is yet to come. Food and more food hahhahaha…. The food not that good but edible lah at least. Got grilled lamb tau…. Joined my colleagues from ground floor. Initially thought of seating with the assistant producer and the producer’s PA.
After tea, my colleagues had to leave. Sat with the AP for a while to talk about contracts. Got the chance to talk to the hosts and finalists then it’s time to go…. OK la wasn’t that bad considering that I am not the ramah tamah type hehhehehe….

Haikal First Movie
My colleague promised me free tickets to ‘Cicakman 2’ since I have been helping her drafting the terms and conditions for ‘Cicakman 2’ contest to be uploaded to the channel’s website. I have been telling Haikal about it and he was very excited. He kept asking me when we can go watch the movie constantly and persistently and bordering to the stage of annoying.
For me, after the end of Harry Potter’s series, I felt empty. I lived in the world of Harry Potter. I have been in deep discussion with a dear friend about it, Miss Liz Claiborne (I know you know who you are LOL) and she introduced me to ‘Twilight’. Though I find it not as fascinating as Harry Potter I kept on reading it and tried to be as much involved in the book. I am fascinated with Edward and his self control. The ‘vegetarian vampire’ so he said. I have been telling hubby that I wanted to watch Twilight. Though I am a bit disappointed with the chosen ‘Edward ‘ but I am content and I believed that he was chosen for a reason….. hmmm…
OK, back to Haikal. Told hubby that Twilight is on and I want to go watch it last 2 weekends. But he said, he wanted to bring Haikal go watch ‘Madagascar’ together with my SIL, Nan. Ok la, Twilight can wait another week since I don’t even know at that time when I am gonna get tickets for Cicakman 2.
So, we went back to Sungai Buluh last 2 weeks, left Alaani and bibik there and brought Haikal and Nan to One Utama. Before that, since morning, we had to listen to Haikal rambling and nagging to go watch ‘Madagascar’ to the point that we nearly cancelled since he kept on insisting on it. Even while queieng to buy ticket, Haikal kept saying ‘I wanna watch madagascar’. Isk isk mmg hilang sabar tau…
Bought popcorn and softdrinks and finally, we were in the theatre. As usual, they were showing the ads and thrillers and again, we almost lost our patience when Haikal kept asking when will the movie start. HELPPP!!!!! Anybody has any tips for annoying kids?
All in all he was very happy and excited. But every now and then he asked when will the movie finish, why is it so long. Isk isk… he dance with the character but luckily he dint run around the theatre like the other 2 kids on the front row.
Haikal had too many popcorns and softdrinks and the theatre was so cold. After the movie finished, he said he has to go. Hubby brought him to the gents and there was a long queue. Hubby dint think of taking him to the disabled toilet and being a kid he couldn’t contain it and he wet his pants. Luckily we brought extra clothes with us and he had to change and Nan and myself had to wait a long time outside the men’s toilet. What a day…
Last week we watched Twilight. Dint bring Haikal this time. We needed time on our own. You know what? I’ll write in a different post. Tunggu… Paddington House of Pancake and Twilight in a day…
Last Wednesday, my colleague told me that she had the tickets for Cicakman 2 ready and to collect it from her. She got like tickets for the whole theatre and she also had the sitting positions in her desktop (like when you buy tickets at the counter, they will show you the sitting positions)… Wow…. So chose my seats got the tickets and we’re good to go. Going with Miss Nichii and her family. Told hubby about it and he said he cant go, he has to attend launching for his client’s new project in Kinrara the whole weekend. Too bad…
As usual, the second choice is Nan. Since it’s a school holiday, she will always be available. Yesterday, went to Sungai Buluh, left Alaani and Bibik there, off we go to Cathay Cineleisure. Met up with Miss Niichi and were told by my other colleague that it was free seating so we can seat anywhere. Sat together with Miss Niichi and Cicakman 2 started. That was fast, no ads and thrillers. Ohh… we also got free popcorns and drinks this time. It was fun. I think better than the first Cicakman.
After that, window shopped at the Curve and Ikano. Haikal kept on crying and asking for toys. I really don’t know what to do. He has to get something if not he will cry and started kicking me or making scenes. He has like 3 boxes of toys that he dint play with. It’s just the excitement of getting something new. I felt like I bought more things for him compared to Alaani. Yesterday, for instance I bought 2 shirts for Haikal but none for Alaani. Haikal is in need of new clothes, he grew up taller now and that his shirts are all getting smaller. But not his pants though, he can still fit his pants from his infant years but I had to alter a little bit la, sew to make it 3 quarter pants.
What a day…
