Happy One Year Astro!!

Today, exactly a year ago, was my first day working at Astro. I was so excited and paranoid at the same time. I have been working on my own for 2 years and before that in a small size legal firm and now I am joining a big reputable company with thousands of employees. A friend of mine who used to work in a related company once told me, that the works good but I have to be careful of the office politics, so I always mind my own business and keep everyone at arm’s length.

Hahahhaha…. Betul ker aku buat macam tu? No, obviously not but I do keep my distance with my boss and immediate supervisor. My boss even labelled me 'good behaviour' hahhahaha... tak pernah aku di label good behaviour... inilah first time dalam sejarah hidup aku. Kalau tak asik la aku yang nakal asik la aku yang banyak cakap.

Looking back, can’t imagine how time flies… am I happy here? I can’t really say it’s a mixture of happiness and unhappiness. Since I joined they took away the 2 months contractual bonus and converted it into monthly salary. Then they’ve introduced ranking system whereby you will be ranked in terms of performance with your peers. In my mind, it’s OK to compare you with a peer of the same department having the same KPI and KRA’s but this is not the case. They ranked you with your peers in the whole of your company. And if you are successful you’ll get 3%-5% increment which is so low. I am so taken aback by the whole process but what the heck, I’ll get use to it soon. To add salt to the injury, the company froze all new recruitment because of the economic crisis (lifted recently) but left us the legal department with no vacancy for a managerial position which I have been eyeing and silently competing with my other colleague for the same position. So, low increment and no possibility for a promotion…. Am I supposed to be happy?

Work wise, it has ups and downs. Boring desk bound job… that is the best way to describe my work. Agreements… agreements… agreements…. But sometimes tu best jugak…. Dapat tau artist u duduk mana, hp no., and the most important thing (to me la) I know how much they earned hehheheh and then get to meet them for signing purposes. But again not all la… Only those that are exclusive to Astro only.

What else? I get to do signature programmes such as Sehati Berdansa and Raja Lawak. My colleague did AF7 cos she is a fan of AF unlike me hehhehe… joined their productions and operational meeting, marketing and so on so forth. Quite interesting although my job is only restricted to giving legal advice for the whole operation… Again get to meet people with interesting job esp the producers. They are called the creative people.
